CSSU ASSESSMENT AND DATA

CSSU uses multiple local, state and national measures to evaluate student progress. A CSSU Common Assessment System (CCAS) guides the administration of common assessments throughout the K-8 schools in literacy, math and science and the regular practice of analyzing and responding to data. The CCAS is continually revised to include updated assessments. The chart below lists the assessments currently given to CSSU students at each grade level. Below is additional information and data on state and national assessments. In 2014-2015 national tests aligned with the Common Core called SBAC replaced the Math, Reading, and Writing NECAP tests.

 SBAC

The statewide Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) assessments for English Language Arts and Math assess the Common Core Standards adopted by Vermont.  These new assessments differ from other state assessments in a few ways:

·         The assessments are administered online and go beyond multiple choice questions to include performance tasks that allow students to demonstrate research, writing, and analytical skills

·         Teachers will be able to administer optional interim assessments throughout the school year to monitor progress and adjust instruction

·         Accommodations for students with disabilities and English language learners will be built into the system so that the progress of students can be accurately measured.

·         An online reporting system will provide clear data on student achievement and growth.

SBAC was administered to CSSU students in Grades 3-8 and Grade 11 in Spring 2015.

 NECAP (Science)

The NECAP science assessment is designed to measure a student’s scientific literacy and inquiry. It consists of multiple choice and short answer questions, and an inquiry task that requires students to analyze and interpret findings from an actual science experiment.
